School of Molecular
and Theoretical Biology

Admission

The application call to the School of Molecular and Theoretical Biology 2023 is now closed. All complete applications with a letter of support will be evaluated by the Admission committee and the results will be announced individually to every applicant in approximately two months. In some cases, the Admission committee may request an additional video call or phone interview.

We thank all of the applicants who took the time to apply and the individuals who wrote the letters of support for their application. We are also grateful to everyone who helped spread the word about SMTB and the ongoing call.

SMTB is supported by the Zimin Foundation.

We will do everything we can to organize the SMTB season offline and to welcome all accepted students regardless of the place of their residence. We would like to avoid holding SMTB online and are working on several possible locations for SMTB-2023. For now we can only share preliminary information about the location and the dates of the school. Most likely SMTB-2023 will take place at the University of Tartu in Estonia for 18 days at the end of July - August 2023. There is a chance that we will run two editions of the School at two different locations. The final decision, and the exact dates for the school, will be announced at the end of April and will be communicated to the accepted students and their parents.

Participation is free of charge for all accepted students. For the offline season, it includes living expenses, medical insurance for those who require it to travel to SMTB and all materials required for lab work. We ask parents to cover traveling costs to the city where SMTB will take place. We realize that for some applicants the cost of transportation may be prohibitive. In that case, at the time of application we ask you to indicate that you will need additional financial aid for transportation. Should you be accepted, the School will cover a part of, or, in exceptional cases, the entire cost of travel. Information about financial support can be found here.

Lodging will be organized in one of the dormitories of the host university with faculty and students living in the same building.

More details about SMTB season and F.A.Q. can be found on our website.

To participate in SMTB-2023 offline the students will require a valid travel passport or other document that allows students to travel abroad and stay there during the school. Some students might also require a visa. There will be plenty of time to receive a passport after the admission decisions for SMTB are sent out. The SMTB staff will offer all the necessary support and paperwork and, whenever appropriate, will offer financial assistance to cover the costs of the visa application fee and the travel to the nearest visa service center.

The School of Molecular and Theoretical Biology does not discriminate, in the admission process or otherwise, on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, age, sexual orientation, disability or any other potentially discriminatory factors or circumstances.

We strive to present an equal opportunity for all applicants. Inquiries regarding the application process or other aspects of SMTB can be addressed to us through our email to our Manager Anna Puzyreva or by telephone to our Scientific Director, Fyodor Kondrashov (+81-70-1478 0347)
